I took out all of the injectors and brought them to the local diesel shop. The specs called for 2900 psi. My injectors averaged 2500 psi. they told me they could clean them by a process called electrolysis which should bring them up to or close to specs. Is it possible to rejuvinate them in this fashion or should I purchase new tips? Also will this help my starting problem? It starts and runs fine in warm weather. The diesel shop also told me I should bring in the tractor sometime and they would put it on a dyno and they could adjust the diesel pump to make the tractor have more power. Is this a good idea or is it hard on the engine?

Hi Brent, While you have the injectors out run a compression test to see if you have a weak cylinder. Your injector pump timing can effect hard starting just being off a few degrees.

What the cost of buying rebuilt injectors vs new. If your planing on keeping the tractor I would look at new tips if mine.

Do you need more power? Most diesels have a wide range of HP they can be set too. At the price of fuel I would adjust for maxmium fuel efficenincy and that should give about midrange HP for that engine.

You might want to leak test the valves if they do not seat absolutly 100% and if seats were ground a little to far they will be hard to start.

We have a 826 with a 358 german. We just rebuilt the motor and had the injectors checked. Two injectors were rebuilt. The tractor started excellent before it was rebuilt now it is hard to start when cold. The guy that checked the injectors reset the pressure and I think thats the problem with the tractor. Also when starting the tractor pull the shut off cable out till the lever on the pump just hits the spring loaded switch on pump hold it there and start the tractor. When it starts push the cable in. Our tractor starts alot better when pulling the shut off cable. let me know if it starts better.

This tractor has a Bosch CR pump and it seems to me that it doesnt have the primer on it to aid in starting. The other 706 we have has a Bosch pump also but I dont know what model and it does have the primer. I will hopefully get the injectors put back in tomorrow or the next day. Ill let you know how it goes thank you

I would'nt be real quick to turn the pump until I was sure the engine was in good mechanical shape. I usually go with new tips so I know they are right. That german deisel was one of the best starting and running engines of its time. Will be worth your while to get it right....Good luck

None of the work on the injection system will help if the valves are sunk in the head too deep. You can't imagine how much difference it makes when you get the valves back to specs.
