I have a Super M that had a 400 radiater on it. Where the hood and grill (which was a regular M grill) meet, was i inch too high and could'nt put 2 bottom bolts for grill to radiator in. I found a nice super M grill and a 51 M radiater. I need to konw if a super M hood is the same as the regular M . Thanks

I've observed that the Super M grill has a couple of holes about middle ways up and down, one on each side of the grill that the M does not have. Apparently for attaching something. Dimensions must be the same as the M, based on what others have said here.

Actually, not all SM tractors have the holes you mention. I've got a late '52 SM (stage 1) that has a grill and front bolster identical to an M. Those holes were to attach the braces that went to the front-mount 4-row cultivators. Sometime after my tractor was made, the front bolster casting and grill received those holes for such attachment. The M and early SM models used an additional part that bolted to holes closer to the center of the grill and connected to both braces. I think (but I'm not certain) this change came at the same time the lower portion of the bolster received the vertical holes on the corners like are found on the 400 model.

John d: Our smd had the holes 2/3 up the grill for mounting the 4 row cultivator. For certain as I have several years running a 4 row. (without power steering.."grunt" at each end of the field) but as you somewhat questioned, the lower portion of ours did NOT have the corner holes such as on a 400. I don't ever remember seeing those corner holes on any SMD or SM back when they were being sold. 50 years later who knows. mn

Buck, the M and the Super M are only different in the way the power plant was built. The hood and grill on an M should be interchangable with a super M.
