I was working on my tractor and the amp. meter was registering plus with the tractor running. Then for no reason the next time I started the tractor the amp. meter stopped registering and the battery would get weak. I did the testing and nothing helped, so removed the cover and pressed on the lower points with a screw driver the points closed and all was working well again. Is there a way to give it a little more pressure? I didn't see any adjustments in there. Thanks! Any help greatly appreciated! Bob

Bob - Before you try adjusting the relay spring tension, make sure there's a good solid ground connection between the regulator base and the tractor frame. A poor regulator ground can cause exactly the charging problem you describe.

Also if you do wind up reducing the relay spring tension, make sure the relay drops (the contacts open back up) when the engine stops. If the relay doesn't drop when the engine stops it'll run the battery down real quick. ...Bob M

Bob see if the back side of those points have a small arm with a tension spring. If they do, slightly bend that arm so there is less tension on the spring.
