Mornin Farmallers! I have a '41 M that has a dry-rotted tire (13.6x38) and the rim has a little rust around the stem. I have the chance to buy a good rim with a 12.6x38 NEW tire mounted on it for $200.00. Will the 12.6x38 be too small for my M and can I use it with the 13.6 on the other side with no damage to the tractor? Thanks in advance for any help.

As far as I know the 12.4 X 38 inch tire fits on a 11" Rim and your M should have 12" rims on it. I have a H that currently has 12.4 X 38 on one side and a 14.9 on the other and I'm not happy with the mis match of sizes.
I'm in the market for a pair of matched usable 12.4's or something slightly larger that will fit my 11" rims

It would work. The H & M rims are inter-changable. I'd air the 12.4 X 38 up to about 14 to 16 PSI and run the 13.6 X 38 soft, like about 8 to 10 PSI so the tractor runs fairly level.

Don't think it will hurt the tractor at all. However, you will be riding on a slope all the time because of the difference in tire diameter. The 12.4 X 38 tire size is the normal one for an H. I wonder if the rim will be the same as the M rim. The M usually has an 11 inch wide rim, where as a 10 inch wide rim is normal for an H.

Bama: There were many thousands of hours put on Farmall M's and H's plowing where the stuble tire was slipping more(corn stalks& mud) than the furrow wheel. So it would take a very long time to match heavy plowing where one wheel was turning faster.....under heavy load. Ralph

BR that is probably a 12.4 x 38. Yes the outside diameter of the two tires will be about 6 inches different. I had a 1951 H two years ago that an H and M tire on the mains.

Yup,too small and it won't do any immediate
damage. Your differential will be working all the
time to one side and I don't think that will do it
any good in the long run.
