what would anybody recommend as a transmission flush. the oil in the trans is a dark brown and some signs of moisture in it . I would like to use something that would not effect the trans seals.

Diesel or kerosene will do the job. But the way fuel prices are, it would only cost a couple $ more to flush the trans with 80W-90. Suggest this: Drain the old lube (be sure to remove both trans drain plugs - also the belt pulley housing if it's got one). Refill the trans with 80W-90 then run the tractor for a few hours (or days) to get everything good and stirred up inside. Finally drain the transmission and refill again with fresh 80W-90. This way you don't risk ruining anything inside on account of having run it filled with a solvent instead of lubricant.

Bruce I am facing the same question on an H I bought last fall. The oil in its transmission looked like it was coming out in gobs. I didn't drain it all out, I was checking for water before I stored it for the winter. Last night I was at the farm and thought I would give her a kick and the old H fired right up.What I am planning is to let the tractor run and warm up for an hour or so then dump some diesel fuel and varsol mixture in the tran, then drive it up the road a mile or so and then home and drain it.Now I don't think diesel and varsol will hurt the seals and I figure the distillates will thin out the trans fluid, and running up the road will churn everything up and I should have a whipped up emulsion of whatever is in there and it will all come out into the drain pail. That's my plan unless someone else out therte has a better idea. One nice thing about this forum is there's lots of expertise and lots of guys to help.Good luck from Mike Soldan in Exeter Ontario.

Bruce what I do is drain the trans, then I use an air blow gun with a sifon hose in 5gal of diesel and flush it out, works good, you should use a mask so as to not breath the diesel mist.
