I am new to this board and a tractor novice. I inherited a Super C from my father in law and I am having a problem with the hydraulics. They work some of time, but are very inconsistent. My first thought is that it is a fluid problem but I know nothing about inspecting or adding fluid. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

you were not clear what you are trying to do with the hy system do you have a remote cycl fast hitch or what like the other fellow says might neen fluid get a ITT manual drain the old stuff out any hy fluid will work then start and move the levers to make the rockshafts work one lever then the other oneitwill take some time to get the air out of the system then you will have to check other options not a bad idea to clean the filter sceen when it has been drained first get a manual and read until you are familiar with the system glad to help anytime good luck

Bob: On the left side near the Rocker Arms there is a Hydraulic tank-there is a Plug here(1&1/8" wrench size), The Hydraulic oil should be 1/2" below this opening. Use oil that meets IHC Hy-Trans Requirements. Let us know what else you find. I would just buy a gallon of this oil and change it to make sure you do not damage the System, Pumps are expensive. Think about buying a service manual for this tractor it will undoubtly help you out. Steve

Steve,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, but just to show my ignorance. What/where are the Rocker Arms? I am pretty handy with car engines but never touched a tractor engine. Sounds like changing the hydraulic fluid is pretty simple. Where is the drain plug for the tank? Any more help would be much appreciated!

Bob: Look at the device that is just ahead of where the battery goes. There should be a box looking thing here. This thing has the Hydraulic reservoir and two (2) hyraulic cylinders that move arms on both sides of this box to lift implemnets like cultivators etc. These arms are refered to as "rocker arms". Standing on the left side there should be the plug I mentioned earlier. As I remember you look below this on that box there should be a much smaller plug, thats the drain plug. It holds close to a gallon. good luck
