I am looking for a tractor to plow snow and cut grass. I already have a 6' finish mower, 3 pt. A guy 200 miles from me has a 240 with a loader and 3 point conversion. Is this tractor about the size of a Ford 8N? or maybe a 600? Is it a good tractor or should I wait and look for another. Thanks for any help you can offer. Bill

Bill,
You didn't say but I assume you are talking about the International 240 Utility. There is also a Farmall 240 Row Crop.
I have a 240 Utility with a loader and power steering and fast hitch. It's a great little tractor. It would be better if I had a separate hydraulic pump for the loader. The tractor's hydraulic pump is the same small pump as used on the IHC Super A, C, super C etc. It will satisfy the needs of the power steering and hitch but is not really adequate when you add a loader.

More like a Ford 600 than a Ford 8N.

The 240 is more tractor than the 8N. If it is a good buy, go for it.

Bill: The 240 won't dig its way out of a wet paper sack, The steering was designed by a bunch of elementary school children! Just kidding---I am predjudice because I have one of these, I think these tractors are better than an 8N. They are heaver and have lower gears. Look to make sure it has the power assist steering if you plan to use the loader (The steering is the weak link on these tractors) Also the 3pt conversion will have down pressure which the Fords did not.
