Did the H and the M have the same size rear axles?

Did the 460 and the 560 have the same size rear axles?

Thanks.

H and M do NOT have the same size axles. M axles are much heavier. M and 560 axles are the same diameter. Pretty sure that H and 460 axles share the same diameter.

John,

You are correct. The H, 300, 350 and 460 have the same size axles and the axles on the M, 400, 450 and 560 are the same size.

You can swap them but it doesnt work very well.
An H has a 2-1/2" axle and the F-12 has a 2-5/8"
axle. I know because I have an F-12 with H wheels on it-they are always coming loose. The hole in the wheel is too small for the axle. (yes that is correct, the H has a SMALLER axle than the F-12)

An M has larger axles than an H. It has been a long time since I have seen a 460. I think the 460 could have the larger axles I know they put 2MH pickers on them and they were heavy. But the housings were smaller.

The early 460 had the same size axle as the 350. I have a '62 model 460 Diesel and it has larger axles. The early 460 and 560 both had smaller axles and IH had to take a lot of the first ones back to the factory and rebuild the transmissions and rear ends because they would not stand the hp from the stronger 6 cylinder engines.

I have a 1958 model 350 and a 1962 model 460 and the 460 axles are bigger than the 350 axles.

Farmall F-12 Steel Wheels will fit on an H Farmall pretty good but Factory H STeel Wheels do not fit on an F-12....IT's close but the clamp bottoms out before it can slip on the F-12 axle....Tried it and it won't work.

I have a 1959 Farmall 460 and I took a pair of non-power adjust centers off a 560 for it. To the best of my knowlege, the 460 could be ordered with either the Std. axles or with what they called HD axles.
