Purchased a Cub 1958 model and was surprised to find that it does not have a water pump. How does this system work and are there any special problems in using the tractor per cooling? I have run it a little and did notice that some steam was popping out the radiator but it did not seem overly hot.

The posts below accurately describe what's known as "thermosiphon."

The cub is cooled by convection. As water gets hotter, it becomes less dense. Therefore the hotter water rises to the top, and also the cooler (more denser) water sinks to the bottom, therefore creating a circulating pattern within the system.

Bill, you're right there is no pump, the cubs use a siphen, gravity system. It is recomended that a non-preasure radiator cap be used. Over filling the sytem can lead to coolant spilling from the radiator, but it is not a danger unless the system really overheats and gets low on coolant.
