H verses M

I have a very general question. I am looking for a second tractor to work on my small farm to disc, cultivate and bush-hog with. I am considering an M or an H. As I understand it, the only difference is the engine size. Is the frame and other components the same? If this is the case, a M would better suite my needs. Let me know, if there are other differences I would like to know.

Thanks for your help,
Doug

all the replies are good. One more thing though, the H burns a lot less fuel but then doesn't do as heavy a work either.

Dan, If you decide an H is the way to go, you should consider a Super C. A little samller in stature, a little handier than a straight H, just about as much HP, but with it's power to weight ratio, capable of about 99.9% of the work that a straight H is. The other thing is that alot of the Super C's had quick hitch, which is aesily convertible to 3pt, and it is one of the best 3pt hitches I have ever used. An M if you need more power or bigger.

Both tractors have thier good and bad, mainly how larger are your fields and large is the equipment you are going to use. The M is iarger and has more horse power than the H. In smaller field I,like the H or SUPER H with a tricycle front for closer turning, how ever tricycle are kind of problem if you have a lot of holes or mowing in rough areas.

The M is a bigger and heavier tractor than the H. The wheel base of the two is the same and implements are designed to fit both, but everything on the M is bigger, not just the engine. The rear wheel tread on the M is wider and the wheels can not be set as narrow as they can on the H. The transmission/final drive housing is wider on the M as is the front end that supports the engine, so implements use spacers for the H and the spacers are not needed for the M. If the wheels are turned out, you cannot haul an M on a trailer that reguires the M rear wheels to fit between the trailer wheels. For the M, with wheels turned out, you must have an over the wheels trailer. If you ever see an M and H sitting side by side, you will immediately see the difference.

Most everything is bigger on the M.
You can mount some tools to either a H or a M, like most cultivators.

My H is just the right size for anything like plowing, disking and bushhoging, only an smooth areas. Either one would be good, but I would take an H any day.

I have a super H - M and a H .i lke the the H and superH better than the M because they are easier to drive and the clutch is a lot easier to push in.i can pick up as mutch with the loader on the super H as the M does. i dont no the totla weight but i can pick up a 460 ford motor with the trans on it.my H has a 3 point on it and i love it,have a 8 foot ford 3poit disck behind it.
