Finally got painting done and all new fuel lines on. now the problem is that the fuel pump is not pumping. It has a rebuild kit in it with a new diaphram and so on. I have great flow from the tank to the sediment bowl and into the first mica disc valve leading into the pump diaphram itself. now when I remove the dome shaped nut holding the spring for the mica valve disc on the pump side itself it will push gas out but as soon as i put it back on with the output fuel line off it wont even push gas out of the fitting....HELP!! Sorry if this is sort of rambling I'm trying to hurry and still make it to dinner before I get into REAL trouble (HEHE)~Brian

First, disconnect the outlet line from the pump and crank a few times to make sure the pump is not working. Could be a plugged line between the pump and carb.

Assuming the pump is really not working, first try interchanging the two springs that sit above the valves (washers). I found these springs to be pretty finicky and had to adjust the tension on the valves to make everything work right (by stretching one spring). One more suggestion: While you are working on the fuel pump, use some clear plastic tubing on the output side of the pump so you can see if it is working or not and able to pump up to the height of the carb. I just use a length that goes up over the hood and down to a bucket on the other side.

Sounds like either the outlet fitting is plugged or the diaphram has a hole or is not seated properly, and it's leaking by when there's any backpressure on the outlet side.

I'm trying to picture in my mind where the gas would go if it's leaking through the diaphram. I'm thinking into the crankcase, but I'm not sure about that.
