F12 running but one more question

The linkage inside the fuel pump was pretty loose so I made a new rod and compensated for the length difference. But now it takes a while to get it started after it has been sitting like it doesn't have gas in the carb or something I really have to crank on it to finally get it to run. Mag is strong and have new plugs/wires and so on. Do any other F12 owners have similar problems? Once she's running she runs good and and I can slow her idle down to a nice slow purr.
Any other ideas would be helpful.

Yes, I have a similar problem. If I let mine set for a couple of weeks, I end up having to clean out the carb to get it going. I need to remove the carb and do a thorough cleaning.

Check these things: After a crank or two, open the drain on the carb. If you have gas there, the fuel pump is ok. Check spark by removing one wire and placing near ground. Crank and verify spark (don't do this just after draining the carb). If both of these look good, you might have the same problem I do: a dirty carb (since it will run, you know timing is ok and compression is ok).

The check valves in the pump are leaking back.
