9N Chuck in MO

Have had a ford 9N for several years and just not quite big enough and no live power. Just bought my first Farmall. Have had a love for these, from afar for several years. I just think they look cool, and they are fairly popular in my part of the country. I got a 54 Farmall Super H in great condition. I know very little about these tractors and I'm a little nervous/excited. Supposed to pick it up on Wednesday.

It's nice to get another tractor, but you still won't have the live power you wanted!!! You have to go newer than an H for that. Robert

But the original poster wanted live PTO and as I'm sure Robert was referring to, the Super H doesn't have live PTO, just live hydraulics for units with S/N after the S/N you mentioned.

Dad traded a 1939 H for My '54 Super H in about 1966 or '67. I've used it for thousands of hours, as shown by the 350 Hour Meter We installed. It currently has a modified FORD loader on it. I've used loaders on tricycle frt end tractors since I was about 6! Never had one get tippy! Just respect the equipment! As far as the 16-17 MPH road gear, I've run thousands of miles on My Super H. Got passed once by a 4020 diesel. I wish Mine was faster! You slow down to turn with your car & truck, Just do the same with the tractor! As RED said, only about 28,000 Super H's made, The switch to Live Hyd. was made at Ser. # 19227 in about Oct/Nov. 1953. Let Us know What Your Ser. # is. Seems like about everyone on this board has an SH. Most parts are still avail. from C/IH.

Chuck-
Good purchase; you'll like it. I have a 53 Super H. The people on the Farmall board are every bit as good and friendly as the Ford people; don't hesitate to ask questions. There is an amazing amount of knowledge and experience out there.

Chuck you will enjoy that Super H. Around 390,000 Hs and 30,000 Super Hs were produced. Parts are easy to find.

Chuck,
The super H is a great tractor. I own a 48 H and have yet to need more power. the super H has a bit more power than my H.
Some words of caution: the farmall has a much higher center of gravity and is easier to turn over, also they have a pretty high geared 5 th gear and are quite capable of getting unstable when going wide open ( 17 MPH on one of these is a bit unnerving unless your on a very smooth road ) the super H may be capable of greater speed than my H!

Yeah, It has narrow front end which will be new to me and does sit up a lot higher. I think that I already have a high level of respectful fear. My little brother crashed his tricycle when he was about 3 and got a nasty gash on the chin. He is thirty-four now and still has the scar. Thanks for the welcome. Chuck

Congrats on the conversion. I have a 54 Super H that I won't trade for the world. We used to have a little 9n Ford at our old place. I hope you aren't afraid of heights...big difference between an N and a row crop Farmall.

The guys on this board have all the answers you will ever need. And all Farmalls are tough!

Enjoy!!! BB

I've been looking at ads for farmalls for a couple of years and then this guy about 2 miles up the road just has a for sale sign on this one and so I stopped in. Sometimes a blind squirrel finds a nut! This board appears to be as friendly as the ford board. no surprise! thanks for the welcome. Chuck

Did the blind squirrel also get a bargin? Nice to buy from a neighbor especially if he has knowledge of the history of the machine. You will be happy with the Super H. Welcome to the post. Dick
