It's been a good day. Ray County, Missouri is a pretty place and I got a good look at the countryside, from a new perspective, sitting high in the seat of my new '54 Super H. I found this tractor on Monday, about three miles from my farm and tonight I paid my new found neighbor and with my Dad following me in his suburban go cart(Honda), we made our way up BB county road. It's oil road and stretches out straight away for about a mile and a half until it starts to wind through pastures and farm houses. Taking my time, goin' home, you notice things like freshly made, big round bales sitting in once again emerald green fields At 8:00 in the evening after a day of rain, it was cool, with a very light breeze, and a pretty sunset. MY new Farmall ran like a champ with an occasional puff of light smoke as I wound my way toward home. Didn't see a single car but several people in their yards, enjoying the evening and I gave them my best tractor wave. As I turned onto the gravel I slowed her down and carefully went across a small wooden bridge. A dog looked up at me curiously and couldn't decide whether to run along side or not. As I made my way up the hill on the west side of my property, I saw two deer down in the wheat field and one ran across and into my timber. As I turned into my drive and came down to the house, my wife and two younger kids came out to see my new found treasure. After several pictures I slowly drove her out to the barn and carefully backed in. After a drive like that my apprehensions have gone and all that I can think is what a great country and what a way to start the Summer!

Hi Chuck,When our new house was finally done in Oct of 2000,I drove my '51 H from my in-laws house to it's new "home",about 13 miles.Just like you I noticed things at 15MPH that I never had at 55,and in the process fell in love with that tractor too.My dad has a '54 Super H,had her for over 30 years, never had a lick of problems out of it.I've never been on a 9N,but,I promise you you'll love that Farmall!Good Luck, and welcome to "RED".

Ron, What a small world! Everytime we go into or thru Lawson, my kids say, "Dad, can we go over twin peaks, please? I live at Bob White and 228, so Elmira is only about 4 miles from me. Weird, the internet is amazing. Found another guy, last week, on the N Board that lives just north of Excelsior. Do you know Mark Williams, just built brand new house East of Elmira? Chuck

Chuck,

As Travis sings; "It's a GREAT DAY to be alive".
Kinda really tells things the way they are.

Wish you many years of enjoyment with your Super "H". It is one of the best Farmalls ever made in the minds of many.

These old red ones are really great tractors and
"with a little maintenance now & then they will not let you down".

Good Luck
"Little Bubba"

Just might do that. Need to get the cam gear replaced in my '41 Ford first. Don't want to jinx my luck. Used to work on 8 and 9 N's for a guy that restored them in Wellsville, KS back in the late 70's and early 80's, and so, being familiar with them I am a little sentimental but I need a bigger, stronger tractor and so I plan to get the 9N running, paint her and then sell. I expect I can get more for the 9 than I just paid for the Farmall. Seems kinda strange that they can sell for so much. Hope I don't chicken out after I get her going since I really don't need two tractors. Maybe for this board I will get a pair of bib overalls with a cape and assume the monicker of Super Chuck! LOL

Chuck, while over in Kansas did you ever see any of them Funk Bros. Fords? One cool tractor. 100hp flathead V8 in a little tractor.

No, I haven't. I have seen pictures of them and can only imagine what a roaring machine they must be. The fella I worked for just did these restorations on the side. He'd run down to Oklahoma somewhere to an auction and pick up 2 or 3, generally, real beat up, N's and then we would beat out fenders and wire brush hoods and then paint and do whatever other repair work was necessary and then he would take these back to the auction to score his profit. You know, I never did ask him what kind of money he made doing this and although it was a labor of love, I think he did pretty good financially too. For me, he paid me cash, fed me everytime I saw him, sometimes twice, and I got some great experience. If you happen to be out there, Ron Samsel, Thanks, Chuck
