Put my '41 M up for sale (in Photo Ads) so's I can buy me a '49 H. The H comes with a two disc turning plow (on steel), a Bush Hog brand brush hog, a disc and a set of cultivators - all for $1200.00. The owner said he would hold it for me till I got my M sold. I'd like to keep 'em both, but Farm Girl says one is my limit until we get up to the farm full-time. Anyone in the market for an M?

Hey Red, have you considered doing something really sweet for FarmGirl, like maybe giving her a really neat birthday gift, like maybe a '41 M? Just a thought..... ..... .

If I didn't know better I'd think MY '49 H was missing. Looks nearly identical (except the rain cap!) I think I'll check my serial # when I get home tonight. Sounds like a good deal you made. Have fun.

Nice looking H. Always nice to get one with a pile of stuff. Too bad about selling the M. I always feel bad when I hear someone say the woman wont let him have something. Makes me glad again that I am not married.

Red, it runs real well. He hasn't had a battery in it in years, but it usually starts in the first one or two cranks.

You got a HECK of a deal with all those goodies thrown in. Congratulations!

If the H has the standard car type radiator neck, you can get a radiator cap at NAPA. You will want around 7 to 8 PSI give or take.

Thanks, Red. He just bought a 29hp New Holland with a bunch of new goodies (front bucket, brush hog, landscape box and a disc), so he was lookin' to unload the H. His wife didn't want to sell since it had belonged to her uncle since it was new, but I promised to give it a good home and not make the old girl work too hard (the tractor, not his wife!).

We had a three disk turning plow on the Farm in Missouri where I grew up. We used it on the MD. It looked different than yours. Ours was a mounted plow and had a hydraulic cylinder that was used with the Lift All to lift it. It could be converted to a 2 disk plow by just removing one of the disk assemblies from the beam and moving the rear wheel up. I don't recall ours having that big wheel on the front that is on yours. Is yours a mounted plow?? Ours attached to a bar that was mounted under the tractor about where the Lift all pump is located or slightly behind there. As I recall, it took about a half a day work to get the thing on the MD. I think you had to remove the drawbar and the plow had attachments to the axle as well as under the tractor. It also had a long bar that went to a bracket mounted on the front wheel assembly of the tractor that steered the back wheel of the plow. It did a good job of plowing. Sorry to hear you have to get rid of the M. After all that work on the tires too!!

First disk plow I've seen on this site. We called them "breaking plows". Had a 3 disk semi-mounted that we pulled with an H (yes an H). Would pull about 8" deep in silt loam in 2nd gear. An M could probably pull 4. The disk plows seem to pull easier than moldboards, but the soil has to be fairly dry. Took at least 30 min to mount it. Easier with 2 people so one could help the driver center on the bar below the belly pump.

Sounds like the same kind of plow we used with the MD. I think we usually plowed in third gear, but I recall getting in tough ground some places that required first. That was in southern missouri clay with plenty of rocks. I believe the one we had was bought at auction and had been used on an H before we got it.

Haas, to be honest with you, I've never used a plow like this one, so I'm not real sure how it attaches to the tractor, but I don't think it is a mounted plow. Until I sell the M, the tractor & all the implements are still at the owners farm here in Alabama, so I haven't had a chance to really look over everything real well. Should be a fun learning experience for me!

Bama,
Sounds like you're getting a good deal there. Just out of curiousity, do you know the serial number? My H is a '49 also, S/N 310699. Grandpa took delivery of it new in July of 49 just two months before I was born. Happy to say that both the H and me are still in pretty good shape! I restored the tractor about 10 years ago and about all it does now is go to a few shows around here and a parade once in awhile. Good luck on selling the M..... or in talking Farm Girl into letting you keep it!
