We got the Cub home the other night, after rereading the Serial Number I found out it's a 1953 not a 1948 like I first thought, After we got it home we did some more checking on it and it's still 6 volt with positive ground, and all the lights work including the red tail light bulb in the rear light, We took the front blade off and hooked to the drag and after a few training round's in the garden my 9 yr. old son did his first solo run with his new tractor.
Two great thing's have happened since we picked the Cub up, My son is the happiest kid in town and the people who we got the cub from gave us the tractor for $100 instead of a $1000 like I earlier posted. Just goes to prove that Good Thing's Do Come To Those Who Wait

Bob, to help a bit with reaching the pedals, the seat can be adjusted back and forth. There are 2 positions possible. The seat base support has 4 holes for the attaching bolts. The toolbox, if any, covers the 5/8" bolts attaching the seat support. Allows the seat to be moved fore and aft just a bit by using the second set of holes. This tractor is one of those great things you did that your son will never forget.

Bob: I always felt that my early startat tractors(age 7) helped me be a much better automobile driver. I had enough driving year around with all kinds of tractors with equipment plowing, cultivating, mowing, spreding manure, and grinding feed so by the time I got my auto-drivers licence that the "show-off" desire was no longer there. I see too many kids with a 6 month old auto license thinking they'er "God" behind the steering wheel.. Ralph.

I agree. You just get the "feel" of how somthing will react when you turn the steering wheel or let out the clutch from driving tractors at a young age. It also helps to learn those driving basics while moving at 5 MPH rather than at 55 MPH. I had been driving tractors and the farm truck for 5 years before I got my permit. That's alot of experience and I know it helped me become a better driver.

..I also for got to mention getting into a bit of trouble now and then with a tractor instills respect for accidents.. such as getting stuck and having to spend hours getting out and everything cleaned\fixed up. Driving too close to another machine and doing some damage($%#@) and over estimating ice and traction and ending up half in the ditch... Trying to stop a very heavy load while going down hill. How quick shifting can ruin a tranny. Driving in tall grass can ruin a rear tire if you don't see the object in time.. don't ask how I learned these things. ralph

Good point Ralph. Grandpa had me driving the H at age 10 and the pickup throughout the farm at age 11. Driver's ed was quite boring for me by age 15.

Bob, That's one happy son you have there for sure. You won't regret this purchase at all! And, your son will be a great young man. I sure like to see them at that age on a tractor instead of a skate board trying to knock their brains into the concrete. Cherish this time with him.//FB

Your Son will have tons of good memories! Brings back some for me, I taught my Son on a 140 with an original equipment one arm loader. He got real good using it at the age of ten. You have a lot of good times ahead with him and his tractor. I see parts of a mounted frame attached, did you get the push blade with the tractor?

Back when I was 9, my dad bought me a Wheelhorse 1077, with snow plow and deck with chains for $175. We had gotten it running and I plowed and mowed with it for the next 2 years, and I could never wait to start plowing, blizzarding or not, there was nothing like zipping up and down the drive way, and finally plow it to perfection, unlike some of the messes he'd leave with the truck!

I'm 16 now, and all I can say is, do whatever it takes to kindle his interest in tractors, and I know alot of people my age that would have turned out far better if they were into something constructive at that age and stuck with it, rather then move on to drugs and getting in trouble..etc.
