I have my friends yellow and white cub in my shop trying to adjust the clutch. I have the inspection plate off under the bell housing, the cotter key, and pin out of clutch shaft where it attaches to the throw-out bearing, and the clutch shaft loose. I can not turn the clevis at the end of the shaft. Is there a lock nut that is preventing it from turning? Not that I can get my hand in the hole, but I don't feel any threads on the shaft. Do I make the adjustment there, or do I adjust the 3 clutch dogs the throw-out bearing engages?

Dave, the release bearing should be adjusted to within 1/8" of release fingers. This adjustment is made at the clutch pedal. Look for a bolt that allows you to slide the pedal for adj.

In Bayou Dave's case, the clutch ought to be adjusted at the pedal. However, on the older Cubs (like mine) the freeplay is adjusted at the clevis in the torque tube. Chris B.

I had a 49 model, many years ago, and thought I remembered adjusting it at the clevis in the torque tube. Thats why I was a little surprised when I couldn't get that clevis to adjust, and thought I better ask before I broke something.

Thanks again!

Thanks, that makes sense, I will check it out and adjust.
