Tranny on B and H Question

Ever since I bought the B I noticed that it grinds a lot going into gears. If I have the tractor idling, then push the clutch in, and wait an wait it will still grind a lot. The H, the C, a 230, and the B275 dont grind that much. Like on the H if I get someone to push the clutch in and I get up under it and look, everything stops turning within a second or two. It seems though as if the B takes a lot longer and still grinds sometimes. I tried adjusting that threaded rod on the clutch thinking it wasnt throwing out quit enough but that didnt seem to help. Does anyone have any suggestions to what could cause this? Could it may be that it is low on tranny oil? Also, if I tear the front end of the H off because it wobbles a little in high gear would I be able to get all of the parts I need? Thanks!!

I don't think low transmission oil level would cause it to grind like that. It sounds more like the clutch is not disengaging. I suspect that the throwout bearing isn't traveling far enough to push the fingers on the pressure plate enough to disengage it, or maybe one of the fingers is bent or broken. I seem to remember that some of the early throwout bearings had a carbon friction surface that would wear down. Is your clutch still the original?

The pilot bearing on the B is nothing more than an oil less bronze bushing. It is probably worn or dry. Common problem. You will have to split the tractor to replace the pilot bearing to fix it. While you are at it, might as well rebuild the whole clutch.
