I took my F12 to it's first show and everything was running good while I was just riding around the show and all, BUT, once i hooked up to a single botom plow and started to plow everything started out good and I plowed down one side and was half way back when she just sputtered and died. I kept on cranking and cranking, and it would start and run a little only with the choke on full and the petcock to the gas tank closed. then once it was sort of running with the choke on I would open the petcock on the tank and it would kill it instantly. It then would take me lots more cranking to get it to sputter a little again. I have the big blister on my hand to prove it. I then had my buddy come out with his 22-36 to pull me out(couldn't let the Deere boys do it, haha). It sort of seems like the float was sticking or that it vapor locked. After it sat for a while it would run fine but still sort of hard to start. Any ideas??

had the same problem with a 38 f-20,after alot of frustration i discovered rust in the carburetor, mine was at a very difficult to clean out area, where the passage of fuel turns a 90 degree angle(the carb is drlled and then plugged) but when i disassembled it and squirted carb cleaner through each passage (one at a time) followed with compressed air, used a thin wire if not satisfied with results,i found it right between the float valve and the (big) load mixture screw, i did not want to drill out the factory installed plug, so working in these close quarters was in the twilight zone or something, good luck ,if your fuel tank has crud in it, we used bb's like a whole bunch of them, after tank was off to shake around in there and clean it up,well, you have fun now

Mine did that the other day. Turned out to be vacuum in the gas tank. Loosening the gas cap fixed it (then later drilling a small hole on top of each cap).

Since it ran with the choke, it is lack of gas that is your problem. Probably not the float, but could be. If you can reproduce the problem, first unscrew the gas caps and see if you hear a vacuum release, then start further diagnosis at the carb: try unscrewing the float drain valve and see if there is gas. If there is none (probable), then unscrew the intake line to the fuel pump and see if gas is making it that far. The answers will tell you what to fix.
