I have a 47 B.N. I would like to convert to a wide front end. The closest body style I see is the A from around the same year. Can this be done? Has anyone heard of doing this with these two tractors? I would probably have to use the gearbox and all from the A. Any help will be appreciated. thanks

yes you will need a front assy froM AN a the wheels wont track with the rear unless you move them on the front adj axles if you make them track with the rear it wont turn right as one fornt will be moved out different than the other had a B kike that it was special ordered fo the COLO HIWAY with a side mower by moving the front to track with the rear when you turn one wheel will turn more that the other one wont steer rite but if you keep the front wheels on the same with centerline of the front pivot will steer ok some people do this for mowing think that will stop from upsetting some city codes require a wide front for mowing had a guy in TEXAS was going to do this then decided not to make the change it will work though if you get the complete front from an A BE SURE TO GET AN ADJUSTABLE FRONT AXLE AS THEY HAD SOME THAT WERE FIXED TREAD

I've seen a B with a wide front one time at a show. Man it looked slick. I was guessin they used a front from a C. I could be wrong. I was just thinking out loud. That always gets me in trouble.

Unless there are sentimental reasons, you might also consider selling the BN and buying an A. Should be pretty much an even swap.

I looked at a B that was for sale a while back that had been converted to wide front. They used the front part from a Super A to convert it. Welded an extension on the left side front axle because the A is offset and not as wide as the B. The B I saw also had hydraulic touch control which came from a Super A. I'm not sure if they just used the whole front from a Super A, including the clutch, engine, etc or if they just did if from the engine block forward. I did not think to look, but I suspect the front half was Super A, the rear half B. Otherwise, there would have been no place to mount the hydraulic pump for the touch control. One thing I noticed was that the sheet metal did not seem to quite fit. Appeared that the hood was not long enough.

What you saw could have been an A with a left side axle extension added to move the final drive out.

It seems like it could be done with out too much problem. You would need the steering box that bolts on the front of the motor on an A to mount the A axle and your grill would have to be modified at the bottom or replaced to fit the A setup. I haven't seen that setup, but I have heard of it being done. I might be interested in the parts you take off the BN if you're not too far away.
