I'm thinking of purchasing a Super A, and I hear pro and con on that particular model Farmall. I now have a re- built Cub and enjoy it very much. The A would be used for dirt plowing, snow plowing and post hole digging chores. What are some thoughts and experiences ???

I'll have to agree with most of the others, the SA doesn't have a 3 point hitch. Although you can make a 3 point conversion pretty easily. I have a SA with a home built blade on front and it does light work very well. My "A" model has a 5' belly mower and I would'nt trade it or my SA for ten thousand Fords. As for posthole digging you may need a bigger tractor, but buy the "Super A" anyway and you will never regret it. You may lose interest in the Cub very quickly though.

If you want a tractor for plowing dirt ,snow,And post hole digging. I would get a Massey Ferguson 35 or a Ford 8N.They both have a regular 3pt hitch

Bronco,

If you want to stick with IH, I would suggest you look at a International 300, 330, or 350 Utility with IPTO. A 3 point adaptor is easy to add to the two point hitch. They will do what you want and can be found for a resonmable price and are good tractors.

ANOTHER FACTOR TO CONSIDER IS LIVE PTO. IF YOU ARE GOING TO PAY FOR A NICE 8N, YOU MIGHT AS WELL CHECK OUT A MF 35 OR EVEN A 135 WHICH WOULD NOT BE MUCH MORE MONEY. THE BEST BARGAIN I HAVE HAD WAS A COCKSHUTT 540. SINCE IT IS A LITTLE LESS COMPACT, IT IS NOT AS POPULAR WITH WEEKEND FARMERS, BUT YOU CAN OFTEN GET A GOOD ONE FOR LESS THAN THE TRENDY TRACTORS. HOWEVER, IT IS DEFINITELY NOT AS COMPACT.

You will find that the little SA will not be up to what you want it to do. It does not have a three point hitch which is very useful. Keep your Cub and look for a nice Ford 8N. It will do everything you just described.

I think The Farmall super A is not as good as a Ford 8n . The best tractor I have drove was a Massey Ferguson 35.The A has no 3pt hitch.

The super a is a very good small tractor. One drawback though. IF you buy it you won't like the cub so much anymore.

As the proud owner of a Super A....Id say if you have much dirt and snow to plow...you need a bigger tractor...and the Super A doesnt have a 3 pt hitch...so youre going to be limited on post hole diggers.....but its a wonderful little tractor for a belly mower..or to plow gardens...

I was raised on JD & 8ns and never was on IH until I bought SA 2 yrs. ago. It came with 5 ft. belly mower, 3 pt. hitch conversion, and 5 ft. snow blade. Tne little SA never stops amazing me at what it can do. If you want a big tractor, buy one, if you want a big little tractor, buy the SA. Good Luck!!

I also a Cub and a SA, plus a Case VAC. All very good tractors. With the belly blade on the Cub, most of my blade work is taken care of

Good Luck
