I know of an IH 560 Diesel for sale. The tractor engine is tore down and he says he has all the parts. The engine is stuck and is sitting with diesel on the pistons. What should I offer him for the tractor? I am going under the assumption that I won't get all the parts but the rubber is really good! I need a good work horse for a small farming operation. I have a MM UTS but I would like a little more horse power to pull a bigger plow.

Any thoughts!

Brian

I just looked at a nice 560 diesel today....IH wide front, flat top fenders, turbo, fast hitch, tires about 40%, overall condition well above average. I'd may call it a 7.5 on a 1 to 10. They wanted $3500.00 for it and I am reasonably sure that they will get close to it. My guess would be that the salvage yards offered your seller somwhere between $1000.00 and $1200.00 and he is trying to a little better. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Rick

The tractor in running condition in my area would probably bring $4-6000. Depending on condition. In this case a hay rack full of parts with real good rubber for the tractor. I'm no expert but i'd start at $1000. Alot more things need to be considered here also. Block condition, new parts cost, trans, this list is endless! I myself would shy away from this deal. just my 2 cents worth, Good Luck

$500 max. If engine is stuck, the head and/or fuel pump and injectors may bad also. Thes are high dollar items for this tractor and the value of new or good used parts will be hard to recoup in the operation of the tractor on your farm.

Thanks guys!

He said he wanted $1300.00 and I thought it was a bit much. If I were to get it for a fair price, is it a good workhorse of a tract? What was their reliability like?

Brian the key to this entire discussion about this IHC 560 is the fact that you said USE this tractor, if the queston was SHOW this tractor my answer would be OK if you are ready for a labor of love to restore and show the one model of IHC tractors that was solely responsible for John Deere overtakeing IHC in market share for good with the 4010/4020 series then go ahead and restore this animal and show it! BUT if you are looking for a workhorse for a small to medium sized operation then look elsewhere, please! I am an IHC fan many hours of my youth were spent on F-20, H & M's etc, the last IHC I operated on the farm was a 1980 1086. The 560 had an Farmall M final drive which was designed for a 4 cylinder 40hp tractor with 3 bottom plow, the shops were full of the first 560's with drivetrain trouble when they put a 6 cyl diesel and hooked 4 and 5 bottom plows to it. I never operated a 560 so others may be more qualified to comment than I but I remember my dad asking the service manager at the local IHC dealer why there were more 560's in the shop than H & M 's when I was about 8 yr old.

I had a 560 a 1963 model if I remember correctly. I put 11,000 hours on that tractor. The tractor turned a 100 hp plus all the time I had it. Of the dozen or so tractors I have owned the 560 was the most overworked. It was the only tractor I ever turned up the hp on. The tractor was worked as a 100hp tractor, 18 ft. vibra shank, forage harvester, etc. I put one set of pistons and sleeves, one hydraulic pump and rebuilt the pto twice. In its day it was a very efficient tractor. It will cost a lot to rebuild one today. Mine in the end put two rods through the crankcase. I needed only a short block to put this tractor in good shape in 1975. I felt back then, that as a work tractor I could not justify the $4,000. Cdn. for a tractor without three point hitch. It was replaced by a 1066.

I think at least most of the early 560s with rear end problems got an update that helped a lot but I'm not sure if it solved the problem. As long as you don't plan on useing the tractor hard I wouldn't be scared of it. The 560 turbo at the Red Power Roundup dynoed more than a stock 1086 but it isn't worked hard.

Might be an insult to some, but assuming she'll run again, and if it has a 3 pt... I'd put it in the $500-1000 range.

Thanks again for all the info!
I have done some other research and the overall feelng is that this tractor isn't what I'm looking for. Gene's understand of the rear end being weak and design for a 4 cyclinder seems to be true. I am looking for a workhorse of a tractor and the same guy has a Case 830 Comfort King gas in really good working condition for $3400.00. This seems to suite my purpose very good. Any thoughts on the Case?

Brian i am in the tractor business as while as the parts business the tracctor 560 ihc is worth 1000 for salvage but i am glad to hear you decided against as when they are apart they never quiet costing money as far as the 830 case i think he is a little high but you did not say how it is equiped 3pt ect. i just sold a 830 comfort king for 2100 but it did not have 3pt or power steering hope this gives you an idea of what the 830 is worht you can add 500 for 3pt and about 300 for power steering good luck and good farming
