Just replaced discs on SM. I thought I had them adjusted to the book but they are locking up tight. First one wheel and then the other every time I push the brake pedal. I used a small dab of white grease on the 7/8 ball bearings the help them slide. Wrong stuff? Wrong adjustment. Seems like the balls are not sliding back into position after bake pedal release. Also all new springs from int/case dealer. I am going to disassemble them again and emery cloth the ball channels clean. Anybody been there, done that? Thanks for any help

Sounds to me that the balls are comming out to far and sticking on the ramps, the best way that i have found is to assamble the parts in the drum and see how much clearance you have to the mounting surfaceif there is more then 3/16's then you need to machine the edge of the drum down to make up for ware also i have found that grease will hold brake dust and gum up myself i prefer to use power graphite or a spray graphite. the ramp need to be smoothe also it helps to deglaze the braking serfaces.

Adder to Denny's advice: The brake half-shaft splines must be absolutely clean (wire brushing is good), then given a light coat of grease before installing the disks. If any burrs are evident on the splines they should be carefully filed off. The brake disks must slide freely on the splines in order for the brakes to work right.

Those disc brakes are VERY sensitive, That's kinda the way the work, Self-Energizing! Sounds like Your problem is They won't release. The 3 big ball bearings are the key! Also the pivot points where the actuating links connect should get a little dab of grease too. Clean the grooves where the balls roll up good as You said, then a thin coat of grease and You should have them working as good as they're going to. These brakes are not a progressive brake like a rotor and caliper type brake. They have to "SNAP" into engagement before You can back off on them, and You can fell them engage and disengage thru the whole tractor.

Denny
Are these the same brakes that are on a SuperC?

Same design, just a lot bigger on the Super M. The Super H's are Bigger than the Super C, but smaller than the Super M.
