I,m trying to replace a cracked live pump. Do I just pull one out and slide the other one in? Is it that simple or are there gears to line up. Anything else I should watch out for? Thanks for any help. Dick in Vermont

LOTS of gears around those live Hyd. pumps. I'm not positive what the book suggests for disassembly, but the distributor has to be removed, the dist. drive housing, then the pump can come off, hoses disconnected, and then You can start reassembling. I think maybe You can pull the distributor and the drive housing off as a single unit.

I would suggest setting the timing mark on the crankshaft pullet at the pointer with the distributor rotor pointing at the #1 plug. You can pull the bottom manifold off of the pump with the 2 lines attached. There are 3 bolts in it. At that point either pull the distributor housing off separately or the live pump and distributor off together. The coupling between the distributor housing (including the spacer behind it) and the live pump will go one fo 2 ways totally right of 180 degrees off. I would suggest pulling the distributor and pump off together. note where the drive gear timing mark is with the distributor on #1. Pull the distributor off of the pump and then put it on the new pump with the timing mark in the same place. As long as you put it back on the tractor with the rotor pointing at #1 it won't mater whre the gear timing mark is, but if you pull the front cover sometime and have to retime will be easier if the mark is in the right place. Would help for you to look at a service book to sort all this out. By the way the distributor and the short housing right behind it come off together.

Dan, Thanks for the help. I,ll probably have to reset the timing after I install the pump. I.ll know the second I hit that starter. I was just concerned about getting the pump in wrong. If there is a wrong way I will find it. Thanks again.
