My relatives have a 1466, 1971 or so I believe which they recently put in a new "big as they could get" 18.5 or so gpm hydraulic pump. There tractor has some kind of synchro trans. (not familiar with IH tractors), 4 gears, high/low, and TA. Anyway they just bought a hydraulic drive stack mover, but the tractor won't run the mover fast enough to keep up with the lowest reverse in the tractor. They have bumped up the gears in the mover to increase chain speed, but the tractor hydraulics (they told me this so I may not have everything right) won't handle a load at that speed (about half the speed of reverse in tractor). Is there any way to get the tractor to go slower, like a creeper gear (they are mechanically inclined), or get more "speed" from hydraulics? I don't think smaller tires would work very well. Any advice would be helpful. alanh@kmtel.net

Well 18.5 GPM seems like alot for a tractor I do not know what size motor a 1466 has. but I can tell you this the horsepower required to run a 18.5 Gpm pump is about 12 at 1000psi 24hp at 2000 psi.

I think you can put a 17gpm pump in a 1466, 12 is standard. A 1466 is around 140 hp so that isn't a problem. Most new tractors that size run upwards of 45 gpm just to the remote valves. There is not a creeper available for a 1466 so I don't know what they could do to slow it down, but it seems to me that it should run as slow as any tractor in first reverse.

They bought the mover without trying it first. About the speed in reverse, I have an 1855 oliver, smaller, close to the same age, running at 110hp. It is much slower in reverse 1. I am going to try the mover on that as soon as I get my hydraulic pump changed (which is shot). They would like the mover to work with what they have. They've driven other larger tractors that seem slower in reverse. I suppose a new tractor would get more flow to the mover to speed things up. Theirs is much faster than the mover in reverse. Thanks.
