Thermostat #261514 R92 updated to #317669 R91. Need to know if this is direct replacement or if modification of housing or other parts is needed.
1953 Super MD serial # F49195J

Aaron - I encountered a similar problem with my Super M (gas) and was somewhat put off by the $20+ price for a replacement t'stat from CIH. So instead I took the t'stat elbow and old t'stat to my friendly local Auto Zone store and searched the t'stat display for a similarly sized automotive replacement. Found one (cat #800-180 if I recall) for $2.99 - it fit perfectly and has been working great for 2 years now.

I would think that if it is an original equipment up grade that you would not need to cange anything. The best advice I can give you is to take you old one with you and compare it to what they give you. If the dimensions are the same then go for it. You also might ask why they up graded it and what the differance is. If you are not happy with their answer you may be able to find a NOS thermostat.

Thank you for your response. Thermostat I rec'd will fit housing but will block entire flow and have no bipass flow w/o modification of thermostat housing. Found out today that Komatsu's part system when updating therm. ref.service bullitin I65-28 dated 4-11-90.Cannot locate this bullitin in our system. If anyone knows where I could locate it , let me know.
