is the only difference between the 8 and 1256 the turbo?

Ben,

Although both the 856 and the 1256 both have a 406.9 cu in engine, the 1256 engine is intercooled for use with a turbo and the 856 is not. The bull gears in the rear end of the 1256 are also wider than the bull gears in the 856. The 3 point hitch is heavier with the 1256 having a Cat III and the 856 having a Cat II. There are other differences in the tractors but these are the main ones that come to mind.

The turbo's (1206 - 1456) also had a larger fan
for better cooling. This wouldn't fit inside the
original tinwork, so there are lumps in the side
panels next to the fan to allow it to clear.
