Anyone have any experience with removing the spindle seal on the INSIDE of spindle. This seal is coverd partially by a "Dust Cover" that can be tapped off. It appears that there are different seals on each side (not sure why...although it would be interesting to know why) I have one side that looks like three rubber rings and the other looks like some kind of felt seal (on ither end...and well the center was pretty chewed up...) I need to relace this one. ANyone ever do it before? ANy one know a source for replacements! Much appreciated.

I just took apart the front end wheel bearings on my 41' M. here's what I found on the inner bearing set: Felt washer and seal go on the axle inside the dust guard, in the hub is a cup shaped holder you might not notice until knocking out the race) then the bearing and race and finaly an inner seal. All make up the inner bearing set. When you have the hub on a bench with the outside up and some of the grease cleaned out, you can look through the hub and see the inside of the inner race and seal, There will be a noch in the hub so that you can get to the back side of the race, you can take a punch and hammer ( I reccomend atleast 2 lb ) and punch the race out, the inner seal and cup earlier mentioned will come out withe them. On the outside is the outer bearing and race and the big nut that keeps it all in.

Carter and Grunwald usualy has the parts, remember to get the number off of the hub before calling. the number is across the hub from the casting code.

Clear as mud? If you order the parts manual it has great exploded views of each part of the tractor.

Good luck, Post what you find.

John...that was great..I had toread twice as my bearings (both inner and outer came right out)..I think the problem was that the inner bearing and race came out but the seal on the shaft stayed put. I took off the dust shield and looked around for how to get the inner seal off. Is this seal a press fit..and I can just hammer it off? The thing is shot. I Tried to pry it off behind the felt seal but all that did was distort the metal lip. Also it appears that the bearings are different on both sides of bolster..although I could be wrong since the damaged one is pretty beaten up.

Also I'm not familiar with Carter and Grunwald. Do you have a web site or phone number. I would really like to see the exploded view as the International Parts book really doesn't show how the seal goes on.. Thanks alot for your help
