Two weeks ago, I posted a message about my Ammeter on my "M" reading negative amps. There were questions about positive or negative ground. I got a couple of manuals, and the tractor is wired for a positive ground battery. So I turned the battery around (it was previously hooked up with negative ground). When I hit the starter button, there was a spark from the nground cable, and nothing else. Engine wouldn't turn over, or even try to. I hooked the battery back up to negative ground, and the tractor started up like usual, but was reading negative amps. What's the deal?

I've got an extra wire from the coil to the negative ammeter post. Is this correct? Other than that, all my connections are correct. Still same result - starts with negative ground, but reads negative amps. Nothing with positive ground. What to check next?

if your charging, just change the connections on your ampmeter and it will show the other way

To test, pull the ground cable from the battery while the tractor is running. If it stays running swap the wires to the ammeter. If it dies swap the cables.
I don't think you could have a 12v conversion and get it to run with a 6v battery without many bad things happening....
You said there was a "spark from the negative cable" thats bad. Figure out where sparks are coming from, tighten connections make sure connections are clean metal to clean metal before continuing.

My Super M was run hooked up backwards for probably 5 years before I figured it out. Then it took me 3 years to replace the regulator, and the battery to get things working right again.

Has your tractor been converted to 12V with alternator or is it still original 6V/generator? If its been converted, and charging, neg ground is correct, and you only need to reverse the 2 wires on the amp guage. If its still 6V with generator/pos ground, switching the battery will fry your regulator and/or generator. Make sure you're charging first. The amp gage may be telling the truth. You should see a little over 13V at the battery if its 12V and maybe 7Volts if you still have the 6V /generator system. When charging a battery, pos to pos and neg to neg, regardless of "ground" on tractor.

My guess is that you didn't have tight connections when you switched to positive ground. The starter will crank the same regardless of the ground settup. Switch it back to positive ground and bolt your ground cable to one of the starter mounting bolts. Make sure the connection is clean.

I check that tonight.

When I charge my battery, do I now put the positive clamp on the negative battery terminal, or the other way around?

Regardless of how you are grounded, connect the negative clamp from the charger to the negative post on the battery and the positive clamp from the charger to the positive post on the battery.
