Since there has been a lot of talk about kerosene Vs gas as tractor fuel I figure it is time to get a test done and down on paper. I spent the day getting my F-12 ready to test it out on both gasoline and kerosene. I just hope there is a Dyno at Elnora. Does anybody know if there is going to be one there? My F-12 has the kero / gas manifold and I am going to run it on Kerosene this weekend at the show. I did notice a difference in the way it ran on kero today. I will have to reset the carb for each test as it was running fine at high speed but misses badly at idle and there is a big lag and almost dies when taking off in gear. I didn't mess with the carb today as I figure I will do the gas test first since the carb is set right on the money for gas.I will be doing the gas test using the starting tank.If anyone else wants to test out their tractor on kero and gas,it would be great to compare notes. I will post my findings when I get back for the folks who are too far away to make it.I will be the guy running around on a red (should be gray) 1935 F-12 with a single front tire and red shop rags over the radiator.I will be there thursday around noon. I hope to see everyone there at Elnora!

Do you have a belt pulley? Think they have a belt driven dyno at least that is what the flyer said. Will be at the truck display Sat. have a red KB6 Int. probably will have a C Farmall with it, if you have time drive your F 12 over, would like to see it. Good luck.

Hi Bob, that is a great looking rig you have! It sure was good to meet you. I will post the test findings on a new posting so you can look for it there. I will also give it a good shot to get to your Fire dept benefit show.

when u say kerosene, are using lighting kerosene or the TVO or what was known down here as power kerosene, which is a higher octane, to run my W6 on power kerosene , i have to make upa mixture of 50% Unleaded & 50% lighting kerosene, which is roughly the same cetane rating as power kero.as power kero is no longer available

should be interesting to see the rsults

str gasoline fuelled tractors down here were non-existent as power kero was about 1/2 the cost of petrol & they used to use less

Hi Robert, I completed the test by the time I read your post, but to answer your question I used what we sell here known as "K1" kerosene. It is a crystal clear, low pariffin kerosene that is used in Kerosene heaters and also in the shop heaters that we call "salamanders". If I remember right you are in Austraila or New Zealand? I have a friend in England who tried to describe the "pariffin oil" they had over there and it might be similar to the tractor fuel we called distillate. I will post the test results in a new post that everyone can find easy. They were suprising!
