I have a 52 Farmall H that is in excellent running condition. Does it have anything left to do a little pto work? What speed does the pto run at? Can this ole boy run a small hay conditioner (JD brand) without doing himself in?

No problem. I figure an "H" puts out about 28 hp with domed pistons. I run a baler, conditioner, mower, saw gear, etc. A baler takes about 14 hp. I even haul an 8 tonne wagon behind the baler. That's about 200 bales loaded . No problem. It does lug them down on the hills. I never saw a tractor lug like an "H". The worst is no live power... lots of speed shifting and double clutching. The rated PTO for a baler is 540 which I think "H" puts out at 1650 rpm max loaded engine speed.

if you play around with the motor a little bit you can get at the edge of 50 horsepower out of a h,cut the head about .150 use 460 pistons with out sleves and a real good valve job

Sounds interesting. Do you know the type of application this would be done for? I assume it's for pulling. The modifications you describe, plus turning up the governor would turn "H" into a real beastie! It would have to have an affect on engine life... wouldn't it?

Unless you tweak the governor to 2,000!

Dear Mr. Red, I am not a farmer , but i live in the country and have driven only international tractors, F-12,F-14,H,300,504, 806,1066, 1486,and600D,and several others i cant remember.we got an H when the first one came out ,i think in the mid 40's . the H and the super M is still my favorite tractors. an there is still an old H in the area that i run.i am now 67 and i drove the H when i was a young boy.

I pulled a square baler behind my H this summer. No problem at all. I think the PTO is around 600 rpm with the motor at 1,675. I am not positive on that.
