I can buy a loader for under $500 for my '56 Farmall 100. The owner says it's an IH accessory or an aftermarket accessory. It is red, heavy and old. (PTO driven pump and round tank are one unit)
Are these things any good?
This is a front end loader with lots of "farmer's welds" on it.

Appreciate the expertise on this website.

Bruce,

I have a '47 Super A that I was able to get a loader for years ago made by a company called Henderson. The factory tag is riveted on the right side lift arm. It also used the Char-Lynn pto pump. The lift cylinders and rods were badly rusted so I bought new ones. I'm now in the process of installing a diverter block and separate control valve in order to have live hydraulics.

Wagner built a loader for the Super A.

Oh just one more comment.....
We have another Super A with the same bucket sytem, however because it has hydraulics already, it only has a valve.

Anyway... the unit we have has a sticker on it which says Char-Lynn. Char-Lynne makes hydraulic valves etc ( currently owned by parker-hannifin), I am not sure if they made the whole unit, or just the hydraulics.

Also check to make sure the cylinders are ok, they used leather seals incidently. if they are not, you can get new cylinders, however they are going to be costly. I know of a souce to get really cheap cylinders if you need to.

Brian.

It sounds like a unit we have on one of our A's, these units work pretty good, the fact that the PTO has to be engaged in order to use it is a pain in the !#%R$ but liveable. One thing to check is that the lever (one side) is unstuck. On ours the lever was stuck and to be honest has been apart for about ten years. The pump and valve is all one unit, and I still haven't figured out how to get it unstuck.
If your tractor has hydraulics I would recommend "T" into the pressure line.

The loaders are handy, but they aren't very big.

If it is a one arm IH loader, I would buy it. The one arm IH loaders are in demand and are not very common. In good condition they often sell for more than $1000. Don't know how they work, never used one. I used to have a front blade on a 140, so based on that, I would say the loader would be good for light duty work is soft dirt or other soft stuff.

I've yet to see a model 1000 one-armed loader going for under $2000. They are pricey!!

The loader is a "conventional" two armed loader with the pivot brackets bolting to the flywheel housing and trans tunnel in two spots. There is one lift cylinder per side and the bucket has a manual trip. The hydraulics are controlled by a long lever that sticks out of the round hydraulic reservoir. What think you now??

I once saw an old ad for a two-arm aftermarket loader. It was designed for the 100, it was sold as an IH-approved accessory, and if memory serves, it was similar to the one you own. Unfortunately, I don't remember who made it. :-(

I think it is probably and aftermarket loader, not an IH. Don't have and idea of the value.
