My 1957 450 has click in the left axle when shifting from reverse to forward or vise versa. Otherwise drive train normal. This my first 450 so any info or comments on the tractor would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest you jack up tractor and rotate the wheel. It should rotate smooth and quiet. You can hear bad bearings/.

Dad's 450 did that too when He had it back in the late '60's. First check to make sure the wheel clamp bolts are tight, the 4 that clamp the cast wheel to the axle. While Your doing that check to make sure the rim clamp bolts are tight. If they all check out O-K, Your problem is probably the same as Dad's was. The bull pinion shaft bearings are getting bad and the pinion shaft is walking back & forth against the bull gear. Pull the brake housing off and try wiggling the shaft real hard. Get a manual before You try to remove the bearing housing. There's also a slim chance it may be the rear axle carrier bearings but a real slim chance.

Thanks Denny, it was loose rim bolts. The tractor had just been repainted before I bought it and they were not tightened properly. BEL
