W6 Governor slightly erratic

Hello,
I've recently got my W6 running. It works well in the field but I have noticed that when it is idling the engine speeds up slightly and then returns to idle periodically. Would this just be the governor linkage sticking slightly or some wear in the governor? Any ideas? I've cleaned the fuel system completely and drained the oil several times and have since changed the filter and have good oil pressure.

Thanks

Andrew

Andrew - Could be several causes - suggest checking in this order: Carburetor idle mixture (too lean or vacuum leak); governor to carb linkage binding or improperly adjusted; worn governor parts - particularly the governor thrust bearing.

I had similar difficulties with an M over the weekend. Problem turned out to be linkage binding. Was able to correct by loosening (not removing) the two screws at each end of the tube that connects the governor riser to the carburetor. Then with the motor warmed up and idling, gently wiggled the tube until I found the spot where the motor idled without surging. I then retightened the screws to hold this position. The tractor now runs great.

Thanks Bob,
I was sitting here wondering what it could be and thought that someone out there might have had the same problem! Thanks! I'll try it out this weekend.

Andrew
