I have figured out that my M is a 1941 model by the letter K on on the major castings. However the serial number remains elusive. Here is some info I have found. the head has casting number 6722DE on it. I wonder if the bkm 36318 is the serial number? If so shouldn't it have been preceded by the numbe 27? It doesn't look to be a factory stamped number. How many places on the block have the number stamped on it. I know I will be able to measure the piston pins and such to figure out wether the thing has been altered. Does anyone out there in tractor cyber space have any ideas? I know it has two way hydraulics on it so that may have been modified.
Thanks fellow Red Lovers
Brad

The two way valve may be IH but i dont think those came out until like 49 or 50.But they could be retrofited to the older Ms

The two way hydraulics could be original. Not sure if it was offered from the beginning, but a 2 way spool valve was optional on the M. The valve was located in front of the belt pulley and was mounted to the fill opening of the lift all unit with a pipe tee and connected to the pressure outlet of the lift all with a hose. It was operated by a second pull rod that was mounted beside the operating rod for the lift all. To use the two way hydraulics, you locked the lift all rod in lift position so that hydraulic fluid was pumped through the spool valve. If yours is like that, it is likely original. If the valve is mounted elsewhere, like on the light bar or such, then it is an add on.

The hydraulic setup you have described is exactly what I have. Thanks for the information.

Brad punch below. The BKM 36318 indicates a 1941.

Brad keep right on asking. Also there is a wealth of information in the archives. It is a little cumbersome to navigate though.
