A fellow has purchased a T-D-9 winch crawler tractor, and is interested what it is he really has. The only number on it that he can find seems to be an engine block # T-D-CBM 14331. It starts on gas and then you switch it to diesel operation after the temp. comes up. It is track driven and seems to have just the winch as its purpose to exist.

Anyone familiar with this machine?
What year built?
Any manuals available?

Someone told him that the engine block is similar to an F-20 and F-30 dating it prior to 1940?

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.

You have an early TD9 it is between 1940-9. It uses and engine that was in the W9 Tractor. My father-in-law has one that is still in use but we are in the process of rebuilding the engine with new parts. There are parts available but you have to know where to look. www.stpc.com can come up with the manual you want. We have all of the manuals parts and all to including revisions but do not want to let them go for obvious reasons.

You can find parts at F.P.Smith Equipment in CA and they are on the web. I do not remember the name but that is where I got my parts for the engine. They also have parts for the IH150L that I bought today read AKA TD9-92.

You will like it fun to work and not too heavy about 14,000 lbs. Manual Everything. Only tip I can give you is to keep good care of the glow plugs (Spark Plugs because they are almost impossible to come by. Switch to gas prior to shutting the tractor off and let it run for a minute or two and then shut it down. Do not run too long on gas or you will have problems

I do have rails and rear end parts for this machine.

Bruce, I have a TD-9 with a home made or non IH dozer blade on it. It is a 1953 but I don't know off hand the # on the block to relate to the # of the one your friend has for the year produced. They were originally built to do field work. Years back the farmer a couple of farms over used one all the time to do his fields. They are tough old crawlers but the sandy soils really eat up the pins and bushing on the track. Bob

The TD-9 engine is definitely not the same block as an F-20 or F30. It is bigger and is the same engine as in a WD-9 standard tread tractor. The years of manufacture are from the mid 1940s to the early 1950s. I have many hours operating a WD-9 and a W-30. The W-30 standard tread is smaller and has the same engine as an F-30 Farmall.
