Can anyone enlighten me on the subject of converting a 1941 M to live hydraulics? I read an article where a guy took a Super M pump which is pad mounted by the distributer and put it on his M. So he must have put the entire engine front drive section on his block? Am I correct? can it be done? Information needed. Thanks guys.
Brad

I installed a M&W live pump on my Farmall H twenty years ago, and I have not had any problems at all. I have an all-hydraulic front end loader on the tractor, and it has been used extensively over the years. IH had a live pump kit listed in the parts books for the W4 and W6 tractors, which should fit the H and M respectively, if one can be found.

I have seen dozens if not hundreds of Ms converted to live hydraulics with aftermarket parts. I can't remember who made the kits. They are easily found in salvage yards in my area. Jim Campbell in Lawrenceburg Tn had several a few weeks back when I was there.

You can do it. However, the timing gear on the M was not designed to drive the hydraulic pump and thus is not as strong as on the Super M, so you may have trouble with the timing gear if you are using the hydraulics a lot.

What in the world are you talking about?
These tractors had no timing chain.
