I got the steering box out last night. (4) bolts were sheared off and the other two were stripped.
The two dowel pins were sheared off to. The shaft coming out on right side was real loose. I tightened up that flange and there doesn't seem to be alot of play in it now. I might not have a real bad gear box after all. I have a machinist friend that will take a look at it. Whats your e-mail address Big Fred? I will keep you posted on my progress.

e-mail is johnsonf@tx3.net .

I have my 300U in the garage now. I'm going to be taking the power steering off it over Thanksgiving. I know I have at least two of the bolts holding the gearbox to the frame that are busted, and I have no oil seals at the output shafts, so I can't keep oil in it. It also looks like the output shaft bushings are worn. I'm also in need of new drag links, as mine are all beat up and one of them is the wrong length. That in turn screws up my steering geometry. I think I'll be a couple months working on this steering. Looking forward to hearing your progress.

Mine is manual steering. I wish it was power.
I think mine took a beating because of the big front end loader that was on the tractor. Its a big yellow industrial loader and weighs about as much as the tractor. When its on you can hardly see the little 300 underneath. I have to rebuild my generator and get a new seal on the PTO shaft.
I'm also going to beef up the rods going from steering box out to front axle.
