Guy I know is looking to buy a loader tractor. He asked me if a 300 utility was more of a tractor than his neighbor's 9N. After I got done laughing I told him it was twice the tractor. More weight, more power, maybe live PTO, TA. Cautioned him however that it was a bit of a brute to steer if it did not have power steering.

I'm a bit more familiar with green stuff & hope you'll forgive me but was I wrong with any of this?

PS.... The neighbor asked me to look at his 9N. Runs like crap & he's had three guys re-build the carb but still has to choke it about 2/3rds to keep it running. Runs best when the main fuel adjusting needle is in his pocket! Took the carb off, looked down it's throat.... MO MAIN FUEL NOZZLE! None at all! TSX 241B just like it's supposed to have but no fuel nozzle at all. Just a big hole in the cast iron where it's 'sposed to be!

And the other guy wants to know if the 300 can out perform this 9N! Not much of a challenge is it.

Thought you guys would like something to laugh at.

Thanks & later.

I have a power steering 300U with a loader and hoe attachment. I use it around the farm; load gravel, dig water / sewer lines, ditching, etc. Plenty good for my needs. I did have some problem with the unique PS hyd pump leaking into the crankcase, but have fixed it. Since then it's been a good unit.
