We have an old 1940 something Coal Mine Tractor at my Grandmother's farm in Shamokin, PA. It's run for years, however recently the clutch seems to have gone out. I want to get a resource for ordering parts, manuals, restoration, etc., but am stuck on what we actually have. The plate on the front says:

W.F. Hobard and Co.
Chicago, IL USA
Shop Muel Serial AL1196
Engine Serial FAA190173
Shop Mule Type A 21

What do we have?

any tips, suggestions, etc. please e-mail me.

Thanks!
Ben

I believe you have one of these. Mine is serial No. FAA 161784, Hebard serial No. 1073. Your serial number, FAA 190173 says yours was built in 1947. Hebard Company in Chicago built these up from Farmall A parts and parts that Hebard built and acquired. You can get engine, clutch and transmission parts from a Case/IH dealer. I'm in the process of rebuilding the clutch on mine now. Contact the following for more info. He has a registry of the Mules. He also in the past has had manuals, but I have not been able to get one so far. You can use an A Manual form Binder Books for most work.

are you sure the clutch is out maybe the linkage on the pressure plate is rusted up there or some place else the clutch disc can also be frozen fast to either the flywheel or the pressure plate any way you will probably want to split it you can get a rebuilt for around 125 exchange you sure have a rare tractor people are collecting them dont give it away

That should read W.F. Hebard and Co. You have a Hebard Shop Mule. It was made from parts of an International A industrial tractor. A clutch for an International or Farmall A tractor should work like new. You have a really unique tractor!
