Ok, I'm looking at parts from an SMTA...I don't know if it runs but it may. It has Power steering and a 3pt hitch, giving that everything works...whats it worth around the country.

last spring i ran across the deal of my life...a neighbor was getting out of the farming undustry after spending his whole life in it and he wanted to get rid of a few pices of machinery...he had a 54 SM-TA diesel that he wanted 900 for. it was in a barn about to fall over hadnt been used or ran in 10 years but looks like new. had factory widefront, T/A works. the tractor still had the fuel in the tank too..i bought filters for it, battery and fuel put it in there and he showed me how to start it and bam she fired right up. it sounded good except it had a skip in the engine. it has the add on 3pt and fenders off a 706 but that doesent bother me. i spent the first part of the summer looking into what the skip was and finding that and fixing she purrs like a kitten. i used it to mow around 200 acers of hay and it is a joy to run. i have a chance to buy a fairly new koyker loader to put on it but i dont know....what do yall think?i think that was the best 900 bucks i have ever spent on a tractor and i know i will get my money back if i ever want to sell it, but right now thats no where near being in the pic.

thanks red. when he told me about the tractor and then the price i said sold! i didnt even look at it, i thought what the heck i mean even if it does need a rebuild a tractor like that at that price doesnt come along often. im useing it to push snow this winter with a back blade. it has new firestoen radials on the back(15.5-38's and fluid) we already had snow down here and those new tires lay one heck of a foot print too...it still needs paint but i want to keep it origional as long as i can.

I was just at my parents farm as I haven't had time to stop by after work all week. Everytime I stop by I hear about the SMTA and I guess I need to get started on it. As I stated in the Red Power forum the Successful Farming Magazine just out (I saw this at Dad's, I don't get that magazine but would like to) that the Super M TA has increased in value 246% in the last ten years! They are one of the most widely sought after antique tractors. A straight C would bring about $850 dollars ten years ago and now brings an average of $1500. I just had time to glance at this article but want to read it more thoroughly when I get time. It looked to be very interesting.

In the eyes of most tractor buffs with a real farming background, the Super MTA is one of the most desirable tractors to have. I guess this is because, in it's time(1954), it represented to Farmall people the illtimate refinement of the M, which was still bought and widely respected, but getting a little out of date. In the SMTA the buyer got most of what the regular M didn't have, namely independant PTO, live hydraulics, torque amplifier(which besides giving a no-clutch shift-down, gave you speeds between the old 4th gear and 5th, or road gear), a lot more power, a really nice seat, sealed beam type lights, and a host of other little convenience items that add up to one nice tractor. Yeah, I loved the SMTA, I guess, but at that time, I spent a lotta time on tractors and the SMTA impressed me mucho. So, to me, you can't spend too much to have a real nice SMTA tractor. Yours is nice, but you can do more for it, you know what it needs yet to be a complete beauty, it's up to you.

Anywhere from $200 to well over $5000 completely restored. I bought our Super MTA for $200. It was all there, and the motor was all shot. Cracked block, head, sleeves, etc. Only thing that could be saved was the crankshaft and a few other misc items. To make a long story short we now have about $2500 into it to get everything fixed and it still needs a TA - figure another $750 for that. No 3 point or power steering yet either figure $600 and $500 for those, respectively.

Also, they are kind of rare, 23522 of them made - more rare than an F-14. It all depends on condition.

I would get it for as cheap as I could, but if the Torque works and it is in good condition, I would go up to $3,000. You may think this is high, but I prefer an M-TA to a SM or 400.

My Dad wanted one for years and 3 years ago he ran across one that was in fairly good shape with a poor repaint for $1500. The TA works good and the engine and trans. and rearend seem to be okay. The tires were poor but the rear rims are not rusted. The grille has a couple of bent bars and a dent or two, and the hood has a couple of dents, but overall the tractor ain't too bad for the money. We plan to restore it to new condition one of these days but haven't had the time as of yet.
