While I enjoy reading about stories of tractors I get tired of wise comments made by people on this site. No one was saying that only JD get stuck and Farmalls don't. A simple comment was made of how he helped a neighbor get out of the mud and he liked the way his tractor sounded under load...some of you need to relax a bit and use this site for what it was designed for. Having Pride in your tractors is not a crime...I wish my kids would have pride in their rooms like I take pride in my TRACTOR...

Eight red tractors from "A" to Magnum "7120" and the only John Deere is a yellow 5010 Scraper. No green on the place but when I see the auction fliers they are loaded with Green. What could that mean???? "Nothing" But it made you think for a moment. Paul from Yakima.

I'm a lucky guy - I've got both a red one and a green one to play with! Enjoy them both! Each has it's strong points, and weak points, but they're both great tractors.

I never really "got" this Red versus Green thing anyway. I own 2 Farmalls and I just got a JD LX178 lawn tractor because I got a heck of a deal on it. Am I to be shamed?? I think not.

I really don't see too much JD bashing on this board, but I see a bunch of Farmall bashing on some other boards. Why?? I don't know, but I think it is something like this and I'll probably get flamed here.

Farmall made a great product that has been proven to be very durable, useful, reliable and tough. They didn't make as many different varients as JD, so there are not really as many truely "collectible" Farmalls. And even those are mostly still hard at work.

John Deere made a great product that has been proven to be very durable, useful, reliable and tough (although I still think Farmall was better "wink"). But there seem to be a lot more rare models an different varients. Small supply equals higher prices, not better tractors.

To illustrate, the JD A went through about 4 major changes during it's production run. The Farmall M went through a series of small changes and remained relatively unchanged during the production run. The early JDs are considered more "collectible" than the Farmall M. Both served the same market.

If there is a point to all this rambling it is that everybody has a right to love their machines for their own reasons. Variety is the spice of life and my next tractor will most likely be a JD just because I don't have one. If it gets stuck I'll pull it out with a Farmall. If a farmall gets stuck, I'll pull it with a JD. Who cares??

You aren't trying to inject an element of calm or reason into this sordid discussion, are you? Well said, I say. Some folks don't seem to grasp that a jab about how somebody's tractor is painted is the kind of thing bandied amongst friends of the sort who meet for coffee at the store every morning before going over to the post office to see if the mail is up yet. Those who find their noses getting out of joint playing by the unwritten rules that govern such groups ought to find somebody else to hang out with, or at least leave the room when the subject comes up. I'm with you.

Have to agree with ya, no point to red vs green debate. The VERY BEST tractors are the ones who served their owners faithfully for many years and are still serving their owners to this day. I know of people still using Farmall M's everyday, relatives use them, and a W-9 every week. I have friends who don't go for more than a couple days without starting their A or B JD to do some chores. Also another friend uses an Oliver Super 88 on a daily basis, along with a Super 77.

All great tractors, all great owners who gave regular maintenance and took care of their equipment.

Dont worry about the mud issue, keep it going its good for YT. Lets make YT site as busy as auto trader at 7pm. This is great, instead having that same boring discussion with yout neighbour you can now chew the rag with people all over the world. What better to chew the rag about than antique tractors, sure beats politics.

I know exactly what he means, I love it when I can get one of my 2-Cylinders under a load, working like it was made to do.

My favorite sound from my childhood was listening to our neighbors 2 cylinder JDs turning land at night.
