I am looking for some place that I can buy brake linings for my SA. My SA has drum brakes and my local supplier tells me I must buy the lined band with the rod.($50.00+ per wheel). If any one knows where I might find the linings only please advise.

Hi Bud.....when I recently put new brakes on an "H", I found that buying new bands and linings only cost a few more dollars than just having new linings put on the old bands. This was at the Case IH dealer.....

I haven't replaced the brakes on my 100 yet, but I have been told that the Case-IH brake bands are the best by far - so that's where I'll buy my bands.

Glenn: You will find the brake bands are less expensive. The Super A has the rod coming to the clevis at the brake pedal that is part of the brake band itself. The 100,130,etc, the band just goes around the drum and both ends hook to a hinged device about 2.5 inches long. It is hinged by a dowell that fits between the two castings as you put the final drive on. This device gives you more mechanical advantage when you step on brake pedal. I have had two Super A's and two 130's. Ocasionally that hinged device will break and if not attended to will score the brake drum. This can fool you sometimes, if your bands are in bad shape, it will give you as much brakeing power as you had with poor bands. Watch that one if you have to buy drum, it wont be cheaper. Hugh

Bob, which side is giving you fits? I'm interested in knowing the pitfalls before tackling it myself.

Glenn: Its been a while since I've done one, but I think the dificult side is the side with the short axel. Problem is as I recall you have to put your jack under transmission rear end case this leaves the rest of tractor almost balanced on jack. Just take a 2 inch block of lumber and something to shim with. Wedge it between front axel and front casting the radiator sits on. Makes things just a bit more steady. Hugh
