I have a Super A Farmall that I use to work my garden with every year. Well I want to change the oil in the hydralic's, but I do not know what weight of oil I should use. My Uncle tells me to use 10w motor oil, but I wanted a second opinion. How many oil plugs are on the hydarlic box and does it have a filter or a strainer of some sort?

Use HyTran Fluid in your Super A hydraulic unit. When you drain it, be sure the rockshaft arms are in the rear position so that the cylinders are fully retracted. The manual says to briefly run the engine after you have drained to get as much oil out of the pump and lines as possible. The Strainer is on the LH side, bottom held in by three cap screws. Best to get a new gasket before you take it out. Clean the strainer in clean solvent such as kerosine. Very Important that everything is VERY CLEAN. When you refill, make sure the rockshafts are still in the rear position and then fill up to the bottom of the fill hole. Start the engine before you put the plug back in and work the touch control levers back and forth to reprime the system and work out the air. Then with the rockshafts in the rear position, fill back up to the top of the fill hole and install the plug. Good Luck!

Brian, you will pay more for Hy-tran as Will mentioned. But you get the best. We use Hy-tran in all our farm machinery, old and new, and in our collection of vintage IHs. Ultimate performance and wonderful moisture absorbing abilities make it an ideal choice. Regards, Redfan.

Brian,I use {NON-Detergent 20}motor oil,you can use hydraulic oil but its a little more $.There are two plugs pertaning to the Hydr-unit."sitting on the tractor"..on the left side of the hyd-unit there are two plugs 1 lower one for draining the system and 1 high one for filling it up.It has a tube type filter on the back of the unit its take about a 1 inch wrench to back it out. It's made of steel mesh,I just clean it up good an put it back in.BE careful of the washer gaskets on the plugs and stainer and you can re-use them.Happy Newyear!!
