Hi I have been reading about these ads that say you can get all this H.P. just by changing out your electrical componets from 6 volts to 12 volt system. Are these claims true? Also if you have your carburetor changed or rebuilt it will give you all kinds of extra power? Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated Thank you.
Bob

If you are talking about Dennys, he is a crook. He makes all those wild clames just to get your money. After that he couldn't care less. Dennys = overpriced junk.

Hi IHmotorhead, Thanks for your input. I know that the dealers will advertise about these aluminum electrical parts and they are not as good as the copper ones. Copper is a much better conductor of electricty than aluminum and it will not oxidize as fast either.

What Red said...

If the stock carburetor is in good shape and properly adjusted, rebuilding the carb provides no increase in HP. Similarly if the stock 6 volt ignition maintained to specification, converting to 12 volts does nothing to increase power. Ad's proclaiming HP increases to the contrary assume (but don't mention!) that the carburetor is way outta whack, or that the ignition is marginal.

One exception: A 12 volt alternator is VERY SLIGHTLY more electrically efficient than a 6 or 12 volt generator. So a 12 volt alternator could provide a miniscule increase in HP. But this difference is so small (less than 0.1 HP) it probably cannot be measured at the drawbar or PTO. And it certainly would not be noticed by an operator when doing real tractor work.

Bob if your tractor is tuned well, those enhancements would provide marginal horsepower increase at best.
