I just finished rebuilding a 574 with D239(Perfect
Circle pistons and sleeves).
I have a problem with white smoke(have been told Low compression due to piston change) I have been told there is a fix for this by installing low volumn injector nozzels.

Does anyone know the number of the nozzels or is there something else I can do to get rid of the white smoke?

Thanks Bob D

But that is only a fix for startup/cold idle white smoke when the compression is right (spec is 310-340 psi). Definitely check that compression. I'm dealing with the same issue right now with a D-239: bought a rebuilt long block from a company not to be named. It has all the symptoms: white smoke and harder staring in the cold. The local Case/IH dealer wants 150 bucks to come by and check the compression (I don't have a diesel compression tester or adapter). If it tests low, the long block company will probably help, but the warrantee only covers parts. I'll post back when I know more.
Good luck,
Ray

Bob, you been had with that kit deal, been there seen that. All this other stuff they are trying to pawn off will not get that compression up. Figure it out, that is what makes a diesel run.

The only cure that i know of is install the correct pistons because you are not going to build the heat who ever sold ya that kit did you wrong and they should at least replace the pistons and rings. What was the kit no. and i'll check my books . Even a littel cunck missing out of the head or a valve job that was done incorrectly will cause this on that engine . I have been throught this with some fly buy nite machine shops that have done work for people that think they are saveing money buy doing it them selfs and take the head to someone that has never real worked on diesels and grind the seats to low and set the valves to deep wicth reduces the comp ratio and leads to hard starting and a white smoke and low powerand shortened engine life due to wall washing from unburnt fuel.

Do you think I should go and have the head rebuilt first before I change pistons and rings?

Also what is the number of the Pistons that I
should be using? I installed Clevite pistons
and sleeves?

Thanks I need all the help I can get.
