Of all the folks restoring their Famall(s), has anyone considered silkscreening the "IH", "Farmall", and "H" (or whatever), on the sheet metal? This may be an actual factory process, I'm not sure. I'm wondering if the silkscreening process would be suitable.

IH Actually did use silk screen on the early Farmall Regulars and a lot of the previous series tractors. They did this mainly because the technology need to make decals didn't exist. I would not silk screen an H or M. There are plenty of good decal suppliers around, but NONE of them make a COMPLETE(and correct)decal sets.

I've seen several terrific restorations that have decals sold from various sources, and they look very good. Wouldn't the restorer be better off with longer lasting emblem paint than vinyl decals? Think of it, one could select their favorite 'correct' emblem configuration. I'm not sure how much trouble I'm getting myself into by silkscreening, but I'll give it a try on my H.

Ken, it would be neat if one could catalog the various decals for each model year. I know they changed all the time. You are correct. No one has the absolute correct set. I did like the one I got from a competitor of yours. The ones I got from IH in 1992 ($50 plus) was not very good. Esp. when the "open" decal for the gas tank cap curved the wrong direction.

The "open" decal has nothing to do with the gas tank. It is for the (optional) shutter control.

I did some catalogging of decals in the Farmall Letter Series Originality Guide- it gets pretty tedious pretty fast, but the Supers are covered very well, and the straight letter series has some coverage.

If you bought a decal set in 1950 for a early 1949 M, from IH, it would already be inaccurate! IH used the current production decals in the packages for the older tractors.

Too bad Case-IH can not have the correct
things for the IH models, but then the present
is more important to them. The 2150 paint for
older IH models does not seem 100 % either !
Something just doesn't look right.....is it
because we're getting older, don't see things
the same ?? Are JD decals having any trouble
of satisfied customers ?

I used the 2150 leaded paint (still had it in 1991) on my 1946 Indy H which is always shedded. The paint is in the process of chipping off. I have had much better luck with VanSickle though the color is a tad lighter.

Red,

I looked at some VanSickle paint in a aerosol
can, and it said New Holland Red and below
that (Old IH Red). Is that true? Does it
look like the correct IH red ? I have been
touching up 3 IH tractors of the 50's, and
the Rustoleum spray can looks the best to me.
Just for small areas, and still has some gloss
to it. It is an equipment enamel. Wouldn't you
say the IH red is like fire engine red?.....I
mean, when I see fire engine, it looks like an
IH tractor should look ! In color, I mean.... Whaduya think ??

There are probably more varieties of fire engine red than there are IH red. I am helping a freind restore an antique fire engine. We have gone to a few shows, and there you see as many different colors of red as you do engines.
