I have an IH Farmall 140 (that I inherited). After looking at the ID sites to the left, I am still confused. I think I have a '61 model. #'s are as follows:
Hood: International 140
Plate on left of tranny: McCormick Farmall 38891 J KK
On plate underneath the above: 116451.
Has cultivators and plows; was used, primarily, to prep tobacco patch.
Am I right?
Thanks for any help.
Bruce

Bruce: I agree with Harold. I don't think you will have to stay strictly with tobacco. These are a versatile litle tractor, when it comes to growing anything in rows. I wouldn't want to get much over 25 acres. However I can tell you the very first year I plowed a 100 acres back in the early 60s, I did it with same basic setup as you have. Plow was same tractor was 130.

It must have taken a long time to plow 100 acres with a 130!! I can't top that, but we used to cultivate 40 acres of corn with a Super A back in the 50s when I was a teenager. We tried to get it done 3 times, but that did not always happen. When we were doing the cultivating the Super A ran from dawn to dusk. That Super A had two engine overhauls and wore out more than two sets of rear tires by the time it was 10 years old. It was sold at auction in the 70s when the family farm in Missouri was sold. It was still operational.

Haas: That plowing was the better part of a month as I recall. Bear in mind we had 7 months stored feeding as well as 7 months maunre to spread. We didn't get any manure spread that spring, due to wet weather. Everyday dad and I milked 40 cows in the morning, then one guy went plowing with 130, and the other guy spreading manure with 300 and using an old Cockshutt to load the manure. The guy that went plowing didn't have to show for evening milking. It was 8:30 am until as long as he could go. On good days he could make 5 acres. Dad kind of favoured the manure spreading job, thus you know who went plowing. I think the 300 seat made the difference to dad. I know it would for me today.

The next year we plowed with a new 560D and 4x16 trailer. 130 just plowed the garden after that.
