Bob, I have a "48" M the pump hold 6 quarts of hydraulic oil (I use hyd oil not 20W motor oil) ther was a good note from Lynn about the dip stick to make one from. Hope this helps.

Well...some (perhaps most) of these at one time had a dipstick, but lots, (perhaps most) are missing now. If you have one, it will be found in the same place you fill it. The filler cap is on top of the center section of the tractor directly below the gas tank and above the control lever where it enters the side of the tractor. It is a knob-shaped cap which screws onto a vertical pipe that goes straight down into the pump.

I don't remember what the capacity of this pump is. If your equipment won't raise, you need more oil, and letting the pump run dry is a shortcut to a new pump. I realize that's NOT a very precise answer!!

Juust about as "precise" as it gets, most of those dipsticks were either lost or "eaten" by the pump.

Just got back from the barn. My dipstick measures 11&1/4 inches from the top of the filler tube. The full mark is located 2" up from the bottom. This would mean that full is 9&1/4" down from the top of the filler tube. Suggest using a heavy guage wire (like #9) & bending a loop at the top & notching it at the full mark. You could then hang it on the tractor for fast checks. Hope this helps. Lynn
