I am in Richmond, VA and I am looking to find a source that can paint a 460. Can anyone provide a reference? I thought about a auto body shop, but I'd like someone what has painted Farmalls before. I am not interested in "Showroom" condition, but I do want it to look good, not amateurish. Also, what should I expect to pay?

thanks,
Kenneth

Here's a picture of the Troy Bilt tiller I repainted last spring. I used PPG's Omni paint
code 71310. It looks very nice. Hal

if you have a vocational school or community college nearby, they may paint it for you for just materials. many places that teach shop classes look for student projects. also try maybe a 4h project.

That's good advice too. I was thinking of suggesting that. Hal

mt grandpa has a ford, not sure what model, but he told me that he got an estimate and he about crapped his paints. Taking it to them, them doing all the prep work and dirt removal, basically drop it off, pick it up painted was 2500$ It is labor intensive if no prep work is done.
I still about crapped my paints.

I would find a body shop that could do the painting. They have the safety equipment for spraying paint since a lot this paint requires a supplied air system to be used when spraying. You would get a first class paint job then. The preparation for painting is the most important thing. All grease and rust needs to be removed.
Any sheet metal should be straighten too. Hal

An auto body shop would be a good place. Those guys that do it all day every day are super good at it. Best thing would be to find a guy that maybe owns his own shop, maybe he'd do it on the side and let you help with some stuff, like clean up and dis/reassembly. Just make sure they use the right colors. Find out what brand of paint they want to use then come back to this forum and ask for the cross referenced colors. Nobody likes a pink or orange farmall!
